ARTIST STATEMENT
My work explores the full spectrum of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora, particularly within Latin Caribbean communities. Growing up, the representation of Latin identity presented in media often centered on fair skin, loose hair, and Eurocentric features, despite the deep Blackness that exists throughout our cultures and families. My work challenges those narrow narratives by honoring and celebrating Black womanhood, ancestry, and cultural identity. I am interested in reshaping how Blackness is seen within the Caribbean while amplifying the beauty, spirituality, history, and traditions that have long been overlooked or erased. Through my work, I aim to create space for deeper conversations around identity, reclamation, and cultural memory. As a graphic designer and visual artist, I use digital mixed media to transform imagined worlds into tangible visual experiences. I combine digital tools with layered textures, symbolism, and hands-on creative practices to build vibrant, emotionally grounded pieces that feel both modern and ancestral. My practice is rooted in joy, intuition, and love. Creating allows me to reconnect with my history while giving myself permission to explore, heal, and imagine freely.I hope my work invites viewers to see the richness and diversity of Afro-Latin Caribbean identity, reconnect with ancestral traditions disrupted by colonization, and feel encouraged to explore the spiritual and cultural histories within their own lineage.
